Face of the Day: 12/27/14

Hey blog readers! Hope you're all doing well :)I'm currently in Palm Springs with my family for a short vacation, but I thought I'd put up a quick face of the day post since I did something a little bit different with my makeup today.

For my base, I used the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer. This is one of my favorite base products because it evens out my skin-tone without making me look like I'm wearing too much makeup. It's basically like an instagram filter in real life. I concealed my dark circles and spots with the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. Despite the extremely messy packaging, I think this concealer is amazing. I locked everything in with the Maybelline Dream Matte Powder, an everyday essential. On my cheeks, I applied a tiny bit of the Revlon Blush in Racy Rose. Racy Rose is a beautiful medium pink shade that adds a brightness to my face without being overpowering. I used Benefit Watt's Up! to highlight the tops of my cheekbones and my cupid's bow. This is the perfect highlighter in my opinion because it creates a subtle glow and doesn't look like I straight up put glitter on my face. For my eyes, I started off by applying a sheer wash of the Purminerals Eyeshadow Pencil in Bronze. Then I added a bit of the dark brown shade from a Japonesque Eyeshadow Duo to my crease. I followed up by lining my eyes with the Loreal Carbon Black Eyeliner and applying generous lashings of the BUXOM Lash Mascara. I filled in my eyebrows with my all-time favorite pencil, the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown. I finished the look off by using Clinique's Chubby Stick Intense in Grandest Grape, a deep berry color, on my lips.

Hope you liked this post! Thanks for reading :D

Review: Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

I'm typically not very particular about my hair products. When I'm buying a shampoo or conditioner, I usually just choose the ones that smell the best. In terms of styling, I don't do much to my hair but straighten it because I just can't be bothered to fuss about with styling tools every morning. This summer, however, I found one hair product that has become a going out essential. Ladies and Gents, I'm talking about the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. This product is one that has a cult following so even though I'm not hugely into haircare, I still wanted to give it a shot. I tried this it for the first time on a day when my hair was super greasy and flat, a perfect opportunity to see if it was worth the hype. I spritzed a generous amount of this spray all throughout my hair and made sure it was evenly worked in. My hair instantly looked bigger and definitely less greasy. It works equally well as a dry shampoo and as a volumizing spray. The product also smells amazing and I'm tempted to pick up other bits from Oribe with the same scent.

I'd love to get more into haircare so if you have any tips or product recs, leave them in a comment below!

REN's Speedy Skincare Offering

I recently placed an order on the Sephora website and received a deluxe sample of the Ren Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial. I was thrilled to get this product because I've loved everything I've tried from Ren skincare so far. This treatment is supposed to make skin look energized and radiant in just one minute. I know, quite a bold claim. Basically, you apply the product on dry skin and add a little bit of water to massage it in. Then you leave it on for one minute and rinse it off. I tested this product out yesterday, the day of my last and hardest final exam. I was looking pretty rough and hoped that this facial would be the perfect pick-me-up. Did it work? Yes, very well! The texture of this product is similar to that of toothpaste and it melts into an oil when applied to the skin. After washing the paste off my face, I felt that I looked fresher and definitely more awake. I don't think the results were really dramatic, but I do feel that it is a great option for days when you don't have time to do a full-blown deep cleanse and face mask.

Hope you enjoyed this quick review! Have you found any new skincare gems? I'd love to hear about them :D

A Red Lip Moment

This fall and winter season, I've really been embracing the bold red lip look. In my opinion, red lipstick can do wonders. Not only does it give a classic edge to any outfit, a bold lip color says,"Hey World, I'M HERE." As superficial as this is, I personally feel a lot more confident and powerful when I'm sporting a red lip.

If you haven't already guessed, this post will be about my favorite red lip colors! Let's get started.

The first lipstick in question is the Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 107. This is the first red lipstick I picked out myself and I actually hesitated quite a bit before taking the plunge. I was afraid that I wouldn't get much use out of it, but to my surprise, the dark berry tones in this lipstick have made it super easy to wear. This lipstick has a matte finish which is my favorite formula for bright colors. It feels really comfortable on the lips and it lasts for a good couple of hours before needing to be re-applied. I believe this shade would suit a range of skin tones and you can't beat the super affordable price tag!

The next one is the Hourglass Liquid Lipstick in Icon. Since last year, I've been hearing a lot of hype about these long-lasting lipsticks. Hourglass claims that it "delivers 14 hours of consistent wear without smudging or dryness". I was really intrigued by this description and the rave reviews this product has been receiving from bloggers so I decided to purchase a mini to try it out. The verdict: seriously impressive! I wouldn't say that the color stayed on my lips for 14 hours, but even towards the end of the day, the fading was pretty minimal and my lips didn't feel unusually dry. If you're someone who hates re-applying your lip color throughout the day, then I think you will LOVE this product! The full size of this product is quite pricey so I'd recommend getting the mini first.

Alright, hope you found this post helpful! Whether your sitting at home watching Christmas movies or going out with fiends this holiday season, throw on some red lipstick and feel like a badass! :D

Lip Balms: Hits & Misses

I don't carry much makeup around with me, but lip balms are the one product you can always find floating around in my handbag. Over time, I have tested out quite a few different lip balms so I thought I would talk you through my favorites and not so favorites.

1) Carmex- This one is definitely an oldie, but an oh so goodie. Carmex is my go-to lip product when my lips are feeling quite chapped and just need a huge boost of moisture. It feels really cool and soothing on the lips and I love putting it on before bed. Also, unlike other lip balms that just sit on the lips, the tingling sensation of Carmex tells you that it is actually treating your lips.

2) Nivea A Kiss of Milk and Honey Lip Care- I think it is safe to say that this is my most used and loved lip balm. I can't tell you how many tubes of these I have gone through. This lip balm has a really moisturizing and hydrating formula that feels so comfortable on the lips. I always put this on before applying a lipstick because it keeps my lips from drying out. Its just an all round great lippy. Also, being a sucker for anything with honey in the name, I am partial to this flavor.

3) Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment- If you love lemon scented products, then you NEED this in your life. It smells so heavenly and makes me feel like I'm on a tropical island every time I use it. Moving on to the actual formula of this lip balm, it is insanely moisturizing and makes your lips feel super smooth. I wouldn't recommend putting this on under a lipstick as it is a bit on the slippery side so the color may not stay on too well, but it is great to wear on its own. The only down side for me is the price. It is on the expensive side for a lip balm, but if you're willing to splurge then I'd say go for it!

1) Soap & Glory A Great Kisser Lip Balm- If you're a long time reader of my blog, you might recognize this product from my 'Fall Lip Picks' post. Since then, I have found that this product is just way too sticky on the lips. I can imagine a small gust of wind making my hair stick to my lips and that would not be pleasant. Also, it just makes your lips feels like they are coated in glue and doesn't add much moisture at the end of the day. Despite the fact that this lip balm smells like gummy peaches, I will not be repurchasing it.

2) EOS- I know. SHOCKER. To many, this is a holy grail lip balm that will always have a place in their makeup bag. With its adorable egg shape and colorful packaging, why do i dislike this product you ask? Well for starters, as cute as the product design is, I find that it gets dirty so easily. Every time I brought this lip balm out to use it, I had to clean out bits of dust that had somehow made its way in and that can't be hygienic. Second, I found that it did absolutely nothing for my lips. It didn't provide much moisture at all and it became pointless to put it on. Anyway, if this lip balm works for you, that's great, but if you're disappointed with it, then definitely check out one of the hits in this post!

Hope you enjoyed this one! What are your favorite lip balms? I'd love to know :)

Beauty Wishlist

Current Beauty Wishlist

I really enjoy reading posts about the items beauty bloggers are lusting after so I thought you might like to know what is on my beauty wishlist currently. It is likely that not all of these products will make their way into my collection, but a girl can dream. The first product I am coveting is the Tom Ford Lip Gloss in Sahara Pink. I'm not going to lie, the thing that attracted me the most to TF makeup was the luxurious packaging. It is to die for! The shade of this lip gloss is also stunning, but the hefty price tag will probably stop me from buying it any time soon. Another fancy schmancy item that I've been wanting is the Diptyque Figuier Candle. The Diptyque website describes the scent as a mixture of 'the warmth of fig wood, the freshness of its leaves and the milky sap'. Sounds divine and perfect for autumn. Moving on to makeup, I still haven't tried anything from the Marc Jacobs Beauty line and it looks GORG. A nail polish that caught my eye was the Marc Jacobs Nail Polish in Delphine. It is a beautiful purple gray that is right up my alley. I already own one Tarte blush and I've been wanting to add another to my collection for quite some time now. These blushes are really pigmented the color selection is fantastic. This time I was pulled in by the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Flush, a pink berry shade. I'm in the market for a new highlighter and the RMS Beauty Livin Luminizer looks like a great choice. I also heard that the always radiant Miranda Kerr loves this product and if it is good enough for her, it is good enough for me. I'm going to wrap this post up with a french pharmacy skincare item that looks refreshing. So cheesy I know. I'm talking of course about the Avene Thermal Spring Water. I've read that this is perfect product to spray on your face throughout the day when you just need a little pick me up. Also, if you'd like some more French pharmacy skincare recommendations, I will be putting up a post about my favorites soon.

Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Are there any beauty products you'd love to have in your collection?

Review: Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil

This is the first face oil I have ever tried so I can't say that is better than anything else, but I do believe that it has done great things for my skin. Before I purchased this product, my skin looked extremely dull and kind of had a grey tone. Not a great look unless you're going for the zombie thing. Part of the reason my skin looked this way is because I wasn't drinking enough water. Once I upped my water intake and added this face oil to the skincare stash, things started looking a lot brighter. I usually apply this face oil after I have finished cleansing and moisturizing my skin and I leave it on overnight. When I wake up in the morning, my skin looks supple and radiant.

Current Favorite: Lip Crayons

Lately, any time I have sported a lip color, it has been one of the lip crayons pictured above. Lip crayons have quickly earned a permanent spot in my makeup stash for many reasons. First, the application process is a total breeze. The crayon- like nib allows you to precisely outline your lips and and fill them in. You can entirely skip the tedious lip liner step. Second, they stay on your lips like no other! I find this especially convenient when working with bright colors as you don't end up having to touch up your lip color every few hours. Even after eating a meal, your lips are beautifully stained. Now let's talk about some of my most loved lip crayons...

1) Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey- This is definitely my most used lip crayon. It is a beautiful mauve pink that I throw on with any makeup look. My lips are naturally quite pigmented so for me this is a pretty wearable color. I think this is a shade that would look different on various skin tones, but equally beautiful.

2) Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous- Rendezvous is the bright orange crayon in the picture and is one of my favorite colors in the warmer months. Don't worry, it doesn't make you look like you've been eating too many orange popsicles! On the lips, it looks like a peachy coral and is surprisingly wearable. My favorite way to wear it is with minimal eye makeup and a bright coral cheek. Definitely a winner for this time of year!

3) Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Crush- Crush is undoubtedly the boldest shade in my lip crayon collection. It is a stunning deep raspberry shade that I love wearing with thick black eyeliner and layers of mascara. I also love wearing it as a soft berry stain during the daytime.

4) Clinique Chubby Sticky in Roomiest Rose- Roomiest rose is a beautiful deep pink that is the perfect everyday shade with a little something extra. If you're someone who likes to have a decent amount of color on their lips, but doesn't want to go all out, then this is the color for you. I also find the formula of this crayon to be really moisturizing and comfortable so you don't even really feel like you have something on your lips.

Have you tried any Lip Crayons? If so, what are your favorites?

Summer Blushes

Summer is my favorite time of year for blush as I get to bring out my most loved pink and coral blushes. Let's get into my top three picks for this summer!

1) Revlon Powder Blush in Racy Rose- I picked this blush up back in the spring and have really made a dent in it since then. I think it is the perfect mid-tone pink that can be worn easily with any makeup look. It gives a fresh glow to the face without looking to too obvious or clownish. The blush is a little on the sheer side, but can easily be built up. I don't find that the color lasts on my cheeks for more than a few hours, but I find that to be the case with most blushes.

2) Josie Maran Argan Color Stick in Coral- Cream blushes are perfect for the summer thanks to their light and comfortable formula. The texture of this blush is one of the first things that attracted me to it. It is creamy and easy to blend without looking oily on the skin. The lasting power is quite impressive for a cream blush as it stays on the cheeks for a good couple of hours. Also, the rich coral shade screams summer!

3) Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Natural Beauty - Now this beauty has quickly become one of my all time favorites. I had been lusting after this blush for months before I finally bit the bullet and picked it up. The blush applies wonderfully and gives a beautiful flush to the cheeks. I also think this color would flatter a multitude of skin tones. If I had to recommend on blush for the summer, it would be this one!

Hope you enjoyed this post! I'd love to hear about your favorite summer blushes in a comment below.

Maybelline Color Elixir Review

Hello blog readers! Today I am coming to you with a review of the new Maybelline Color Elixirs. These lip glosses have been blowing up a storm on blogs recently, so are they really worth the hype? Here are my thoughts...

These lip gloss come in a variety of shades ranging from baby pinks to bright reds. The two I have pictured above are Petal Plush and Celestial Coral. They look pretty similar in the pic, but Petal Plush is a shimmery light pink and Celestial Coral is a creamy mid-tone pink. I find that these lip glosses feel extremely moisturizing and have a lip-balm like texture. I much prefer this to the sticky consistency of your typical lip glosses. As far as the pigmentation of the glosses go, I think the shades without shimmer are much more true to color on the lips. Finally, I don't how much this will influence your decision, but the packaging is super sleek and gorgeous so that's a plus!

Overall, I would say that these lippies are worth the hype! They have even converted a non-lip gloss lover like me :)

Let me know if you've tried any of these glosses in a comment below! thanks :)

Base Buddies

I'm in the market for a new foundation and concealer at the moment, but before I start fishing, I thought I would review the base combination I have been loyal to for the past few months...

My foundation of choice has been the Laura Mercier Oil-free Tinted Moisturizer. I find that this is a great option for everyday because of it's dewy, natural finish. I hate the feeling of a heavy foundation and this is light enough to not make me look like a cakey mess. I find that the coverage is much sheerer when applied with fingers so I like to use the Real Techniques Buffing Brush for a little bit more coverage.

The concealer I've been using alongside the LM tinted
moisturizer is the Makeup Forever Full Cover Concealer. Now this is a super full coverage product. I find that it covers dark circles and blemishes equally well. It is pretty long wearing and it doesn't clump up in the annoying creases under my eyes.

Hope you enjoyed this post! Leave any foundation/concealer recommendations in a comment below :) Thanks

The Dry Shampoo for me

Last week, I was casually perusing the beauty isles of target when I came across the Dove refresh+care dry shampoo. I have never really been a fan of dry shampoos because the ones I've tried just ended up leaving my hair greasier than it was to begin with! Nevertheless, I decided to give this one a go after reading quite a few rave reviews on it. My thoughts? I think it is pretty darn  amazing! Not only does it refresh the hair, it also adds quite a bit of volume. This feature makes it a great multipurpose product. To sum it all up, if you're having a hard time finding a dry shampoo that works, this might be the one for you!

TOP 13 OF 2013

Hellooo fellow beauty junkies! Hope you had a fantastic New Years! To start 2014 off with a bang, I thought I would take some time to reflect on all the new products I have discovered in 2013. So without further ado, let's get into my favorite skincare and makeup goodies of the year!

1) Zoya Nail Polish Remover: You're probably thinking that a nail polish remover is a slightly strange thing to be gushing over, but this one is truly amazeballs. Not only does it come with a super convenient pump, it also swipes off all of my polish without any scrubbing required.

2) Origins Drink up Intensive Mask: I have already mentioned this in a rather lengthy blog post, so I will keep this short. If you want to wake up and glow like you have had 20 hours of sleep, then this is the face mask for you.

                                                                3) Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrate: Now if you are into french skincare, then you will surely know about this product. It is the perfect daily moisturizer for all skin types which does its job without leaving your skin feeling greasy. What can I say, its an oldie but a goodie.
                                                                 4) Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Mask: This is a product that I discovered pretty late into the year, but I just had to include it. I think this is one of those masks that does it all. It deeply cleanses, refreshes and smooths the skin! It's a must have.

                                                                 5) Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm: If I had to pick my favorite product find of the entire year, it would hands down be this cleanser. This was my first time using a hot cloth cleanser and let me tell you I will never go back! I use this cleanser morning and night and it leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean!

                                                                 6) Caudalie Hand Cream: In 2013, I was on a hunt for the perfect hand cream and ladies and gentlemen, this is it. It is the perfect everyday hand cream because it is moisturizing without leaving a sticky residue. Definitely a handbag essential!

                                                                   7) Josie Maran Argan Color Stick in Coral: I had to include my favorite peachy coral blush of the year and this time it is a cream formula. I have never really got along with cream blushes because of their short lasting power, but this one doesn't have that problem. It stays on for a good couple of hours, provides easy application and who doesn't love that gorgeous rose gold packaging!

                                                                     8) Rimmel Scandal Eyes in Nude: I love to use this eyeliner in my waterline on days when I just look a little dull and dead... so basically everyday. For real though, this is great for making your eyes look bigger or just making you look like you got a lot more sleep than you actually did because you've really been watching Mad Men all night. Sigh.

                                                                      9) Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the bronze: Now I am really not much of an eyeshadow girl. All that patting and blending seems like way to much effort at 6:30 am, but this I can work with. All you need is to swipe the color all over your lid and BAM, you're wearing eye makeup. Perfect product for a lazy gal.

                                                                      10) Japonesque Eyeshadow Duo in 08: Japonesque launched their makeup line this year and I just couldn't stop myself from picking up a little something! I went for a neutral eyeshadow duo and I am more than happy with it. The color looks exactly how it looks in the tin on the eyes and the staying power is fantastic. Plus, the package is so artsy and beautiful!

                                                                      11) Laura Mercier Oil- Free Tinted Moisturizer: This product was another one of my favorite finds of the year. It provides the perfect amount of coverage for everyday and doesn't make you look like you've caked on too much face makeup. Another everyday staple.

                                                                       12) Revlon Balm Stain in Honey: Revlon came out with a lot of matte and glossy lip stains during the holiday season which I am dying to try, but for now I am still faithful to the originals. I think this shade would suit a variety of different skin tones and for me it is the perfect year round mauvey pink color.

                                                                       13) Korres Lip Butter in Plum: Another great handbag essential that I love throwing on during the fall and winter months. Not only does it give the lips a deep berry color, it also keeps them moisturized which is a must.

That concludes my 2013 Favorites! Let's raise a glass to new, amazing product discoveries in 2014! Please leave a comment with your favorite finds of the year : D Byeeee
